A quick update for you on progress over the winter period.

A lot of work has been done over in the last few weeks to get the green, and bowls area in general, ready for the new season. As you are aware, at the end of last season the leylandii on the far side of the green were removed. This was mainly due to the damage they were causing to the green, drying it out, making the far edge very difficult to play and even harder to maintain.

Since then the old shelters and excess soil in the area have been removed and, more recently, the old paving stones taken up and relaid. The flagged area has been extended quite a bit, giving us plenty of options for benches, shelters, planters etc. in the future. We also have to allow for an emergency exit through to the back gate and access to the green for heavy machinery. So a lot needs to be taken into consideration before deciding exactly how we move forward.

The next step is to tidy up the whole area, for both Bowls and Padel. This will ensure that club planning permission agreements are met, whilst still leaving our options open. It will involve turfing those areas that have been cleared, after some levelling/sloping of the ground. The green edging also has to be renewed. Both of these steps will start happening soon so that they are complete in time for the start the season.
