Welcome To Formby Village Bowls Club
Hello and welcome to the website for Formby Village Bowls Club, a part of the Formby Village Sports Club
Come along and enjoy the many health and social benefits of crown green bowling.
The club is open from 8.00 am to 11.00 pm seven days a week and we have many social and league bowling events scheduled every day.
Beginners are encouraged to take advantage of our free coaching sessions and we can loan bowls to you until you find the right size and weight that is good for you.
Our members are very friendly and we welcome new members at any time of the season which generally runs from March to October. We then hold social events during the winter months such as whist drives, quiz nights, cheese and wine tasting etc.
Dear members
A quick update for you on progress over the winter period.
A lot of work has been done over in the last few weeks to get the green, and bowls area in general, ready for the new season. As you are aware, at the end of last season the leylandii on the far side of the green were removed. This was mainly due to the damage they were causing to the green, drying it out, making the far edge very difficult to play and even harder to maintain.
Since then the old shelters and excess soil in the area have been removed and, more recently, the old paving stones taken up and relaid. The flagged area has been extended quite a bit, giving us plenty of options for benches, shelters, planters etc. in the future. We also have to allow for an emergency exit through to the back gate and access to the green for heavy machinery. So a lot needs to be taken into consideration before deciding exactly how we move forward.
The next step is to tidy up the whole area, for both Bowls and Padel. This will ensure that club planning permission agreements are met, whilst still leaving our options open. It will involve turfing those areas that have been cleared, after some levelling/sloping of the ground. The green edging also has to be renewed. Both of these steps will start happening soon so that they are complete in time for the start the season.Location
We are located behind the Beaufort Hall, a part of the sports complex surrounding Holy Trinity Church in Formby.
Our address is Rosemary Lane, Formby, L37 3HA
The car park and entrance is wheelchair friendly.
